The island of the "lost pot"

In 1773 the Yakutian industrialist Ivan Lyakhov opened in the Arctic Ocean a group of large islands. Landed on the nearest of them, he for some time explored the island. When Lyakhov left the island, after a while it turned out that one of his companions had lost his bowler there.

Boiler - the largest island in the archipelago of the Novosibirsk Islands, in the group of islands of Anjou. The area is 23200 km2. The highest point of the island is Mount Malakatyn-Tas (361 m). The rivers that flow through the island of the "lost pot" are small and shallow, flowing in narrow valleys, with the exception of Balykty, at the mouth of the latter there is an insignificant Tsareva lip. The fish river is named for its abundance of fish, especially catfish.

The island of the "lost bowler" is in the zone of arctic deserts with a rare herbaceous shrub vegetation among stone placers and polygonal soils. The climate is arctic, severe. Snow lies 9-10 months a year. The average July temperature is +2,90 C, but at night the temperature drops to -60 C. And only in certain warm days the temperature can rise to higher values. From November to March thaws are excluded, in April the absolute maximum of temperature is 0,30 C. The coldest month-February average monthly temperature (-29,70 C and -49,90 C, respectively). The temperature below -300 C can be observed from October to April.
